Sonya Curry has led a wonderful and fulfilling life. She had a good volleyball career and played an important role in helping her three children become NBA stars. For many years, her three children were her main focus and priority. However, her life changed when she became a grandmother to nine grandchildren. Sonya’s family life has changed in many ways, and they’ve become a huge part of her world.
For a long time, Stephen Curry‘s mum, Sonya, had a feeling there was more she wanted to achieve, beyond her family and career. But everything changed after a confrontation with her daughter last year. That moment seemed to make Sonya rethink what truly matters, shifting her focus and helping her see things in a new light. It was a turning point in her life that gave her a deeper understanding of what is most important.
Sonya Curry recently shared some heartwarming moments from her life in a conversation with Travis Hearn. She reflected on a memorable discussion with her daughter, Sydel, about her wish for 10 grandchildren. Sonya had always hoped for a larger family, and with the birth of Stephen Curry’s son Caius, the goal seemed within reach.
Sonya recalled a conversation with Sydel where she suggested having more kids, but her daughter wasn’t too happy about it. Sonya laughed and said, “Sydel has her last one, she just turned one. But Sydel’s second baby just turned one a month ago. Half a year back, I saw her, and I was like ‘I hope you’ll have one more, maybe 2.’ And she gave me the look of death, she sent me right to hell with that one. She was like ‘I’m done breastfeeding, and gave away her clothes’. Just ready to live her best life.”
Sonya prayed for Sydel, and soon after, Sydel shared she was expecting her third child. The baby is due just five days before Sonya’s 59th birthday. With the third one on the way, Sonya will soon have her 10 grandchildren, though, as she mentioned, Sydel’s pregnancies haven’t been easy
Sydel Curry-Lee became a mother for the first time in 2021, and Sonya said it was really hard for her to watch her daughter go through so much pain during childbirth. She told Travis Hearn that while it was tough seeing her daughters-in-law in pain too, with Sydel, she just wanted to “literally climb up in the bed with her, and take all the pain she was having.”
Sonya was surprised by how Sydel handled the pain and gave birth without any medicine. Sydel had her second baby in 2023, and with the third one coming in May, Sonya will probably be there to help her through it.
